Today's the start of the fall semester: faculty and staff gather for our three-day "in-service" sessions where we learn about the new light bulbs purchased by the college, the special ink used to print the reams-and-reams of marketing materials because we don't have enough students.
My first year at the college, these "duty days" (awfully perfect name almost all faculty persist in calling them) included a wonderful and inspirational talk about teaching: Chet Meyers reminded me why I teach, why I love it, and why it's important to remember these things. We haven't had such a motivating beginning since. *Sigh*.
Is this use of “on” really off?

A couple of years ago (or, maybe last year) Dr. Liteckey had some interesting and philosophical things to say about teaching and learning... but, I do have to agree that this year was less than inspiring. Of course, maybe they are saving all that for tomorrow?
I wrote this blog post in the morning before all the events. And yeah, I remember that Litecky talk -- it was okay, but the Meyers' talk was truly inspirational.
We'll see what tomorrow brings -- "he Future" if I've ready my agenda correctly!
