It's great: students are talking with each other on our class blogs. I've found out that our Century Soccer team won this weekend in Wisconsin. I've also found out that the Common Book is resonating with my students.
This innovation might be a good idea.

What are you reading as a common text? (Just recently found your blog, and may have missed mention going back, but don't have access to your class site, for obvious reasons.) Are you doing common activities too?
(Can you tell I'm hoping to learn something that will work with our common texts?)
Thanks for reading -- you're read by at least two of my colleagues!
Our Common Book this year is Elizabeth Kolbert's _Field Notes From a Catastrophe_. Last year it was Marjane Satrapi's _Persepolis_.
If I was better at tagging my posts, you could find the entries where I mention it. I'll get better now!
Common activities on campus: we're having some. You can check at common book website, http://centurycommonbook.project.mnscu.edu/, which is buried inside our shitty college website.
We are actually having Kolbert come to our campus in April - that's exciting!
